PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Jesse Carlin and Mike Hall have received Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The announcement of the all-district teams was made late last week.
To be eligible for Academic All-District, an athlete must carry a cumulative GPA of 3.20 and be in his or her second year at the institution. CoSIDA's members vote for the teams within their respective districts
By receiving first-team all-district, both Carlin and Hall are eligible for Academic All-America honors which will be voted on over the next few weeks. The ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America Track Teams will be announced Monday, June 23 (men's) and Wednesday, June 25 (women's).
Carlin has had a stellar year, both indoors and outdoors -- she was a two-time All-America at the NCAA indoor Championships in March, and enters the NCAA Outdoor Championships this week having already won the 800 at the Heptagonal, ECAC, and NCAA East Region championship meets. Last month, she was named the University's Association of Alumnae Fathers' Award recipient, an honor that is considered the highest for a senior female student-athlete at Penn.
Hall finished second at the Heptagonal Championships in the decathlon earlier this spring, and was the male recipient of the University's Goldring Award as the senior male student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA.
