Carlin Qualifies for NCAA Outdoor Championships

800 Meter Run Final Results

GAINESVILLE, Fla.--Junior Jesse Carlin ran a time of 2:06.29 to finish third in the 800 at the NCAA East Regional meet and advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Sacramento, Calif., June 6-9.

The trip is Carlin's first trip to the national race and Penn's first qualifier in the 800 since Mary Turner in 1982. Last season, classmante Stacy Kim qualified in the 1500 meter run.

Carlin's qualification continues the Quakers' now five-year streak of sending at least one athlete to the national race alive.

Her time bested her personalrecord(in an individual event--she ran a time of 2:05.55 in the third leg of the 4x800m relay at the Penn Relays earlier this season) and the school record that she had set in the preliminary race, Friday.

Carlin may be joined by teammate Shani Boston in Sacramento. Boston scored her highest point total of the season--5152--to win the Ivy Heptagonal crown in the heptathlon earlier this season. That score was added to a national list with the top 20 scoresselected to compete at the NCAA Championships.
