Join In! Help Charge for a Cure!
PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team is dedicating its entire 2010-11 season in the fight against several diseases and they need your help. The team has started an initiative which they have coined the “Charge for a Cure” program. Each month of the season will be devoted to help a specific disease with personal ties to the program – ALS, Lupus, Parkinson’s Disease, Breast Cancer, and Cystic Fibrosis. The team is turning to itsfans to lend a hand in its efforts.
Here is how it works: At the end of each month, the coaching staff will total the number of offensive charges the Quakers have taken as a team. Fans can pledge in advance a donation per offensive charge, typically up to $1 per charge for the season. Participating fans will be contacted at the end of each month regarding their total donation to the charity of the month.
The team will send a check to the respective organizations listed below.
November (5 games) – The ALS Association of America
December (4 games) – The Lupus Foundation of America
January (8 games) – The Michael J. Fox Foundation (Parkinson’s Disease)
February (8 games) – Susan G. Komen Foundation (Breast Cancer)
March (3 games) – Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Last year, the team finished the season with 34 offensive charges taken. The max donation will not exceed 50 charges for the 2010-2011 season.
Please join the women’s basketball team as it looks to make a difference in the lives of the people these diseases affect every day. To donate, or for more information, contact assistant coach Kara Cassidy at email@example.com.
