PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania Track and Field teams return to action on Saturday, April 16th when they make the short trek to Chester, Pa. for the Chester Quarry Classic hosted by Widener University. Races are slated to begin at 12 p.m. at Leslie C. Quick Jr. Stadium.
The Quakers will also send two athletes to the Beach Invitational hosted by Cal State Long Beach. Kelsey Hay will throw javelin on Friday, April 15th while Sam Mattis is set to compete in the discus on Saturday, April 16th.
The Chester Quarry Classic marks the return to Pennsylvania following a pair of invites in Charlottesville, Va. last weekend. At the Virginia Quad Meet on April 8th, the teams competed against Maryland, Virginia and Columbia while Sam Mattis headlined the Quakers with another Olympic ‘A’ standard throw – 65.12 meters – to set a Lannigan Field record on UVA’s home track. Lisa Sesink-Clee also had a career-best day in javelin with a throw of 45.83 meters to claim gold in the event.
The men are off to a solid start to the year and are currently ranked No. 25 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll and started the season with a No. 23 ranking. They’ll look to continue that success in the coming weeks.
