PHILADELPHIA – In the final weekend of the regular season, in what amounted to playoff baseball for the University of Pennsylvania baseball team, sophomore right-handed pitcher Jake Cousins was named Big 5 Pitcher of the Week for his dominating performance on the mound versus Columbia in a 2-0 victory on Sunday.
Cousins (5-1) threw a complete game, one hitter, allowing a lone single in the fourth inning. In the shutout victory, Cousins collected six strikeouts pushing his season total to 31.
Picking up his fifth victory this season, Cousins is now tied for the team lead with fellow sophomore Mike Reitcheck. On Sunday, Cousins lowered his ERA to 2.22 in 48.2 innings pitched, placing him third in the Ivy League.
