Craig Connolly Inducted to Athletics Hall of Fame

PHILADELPHIA – On May 3, 2014one of the University of Pennsylvania baseball program'sfinest pitchers, Craig Connolly C’90 CGS’98, returned to campus to be honored as a member of the Penn Athletics Hall of Fame’s ninth class.

Earlier in the day, Connolly threw out the first pitch at the Penn versus Columbia one-game playoff for the Gehrig Division championship.

During his career as a Quaker, Connolly was the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League (EIBL) Pitcher of the Year twice, in both 1989 and 1990—Penn’s only two-time recipient at the time of his induction—he helped Penn to three-straight EIBL titles from 1988-90. The Quakers went 42-12 in league play those three years. He tied for the EIBL lead in conference wins in both 1989 and 1990 (4 both years), and was the EIBL’s ERA leader as a junior (0.26) and senior (0.52). Craig was drafted by the Oakland A’s in the 1990 Major League Baseball Draft.

Connolly currently still holds the top spot in Penn pitching records, having struck out 227 batters in his career. He is third in wins, with 20, and third in career ERA, 2.67.
