PHILADELPHIA - It was an impressive end to the 2013 cross country season for the University of Pennsylvania men's and women's teams and both are eager to return to racing. On Friday, Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Steve Dolan announced the 2014 schedule and the Quakers are just two months away from competition.

Last season, the Penn men finished fourth at regionals as Thomas Awad became the first Penn man to reach the NCAA Championships since 2005. On the women's side, Cleo Whiting became the first freshman in program history to reach the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

The three-month journey toward a return to the NCAA Championships will start in Philadelphia as the Quakers will host the Big 5 Invitational at Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park on Sept. 12.

Penn remains close to home for its second race of the year. The Quakers will compete in the Mainline Invitational in Haverford, Pa. on Sept. 25, and the following weekend, the Quakers will split between the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 3 in South Bend, Ind., and the Paul Short Invite on Oct. 4 in Bethlehem, Pa.

The Princeton Invitational on Oct. 18 serves as the final race prior to the Heptagonal Championships at Princeton on Nov. 1.

The 2014 NCAA Regionals will be held on Nov. 14 in State College, Pa., while the NCAA Championships return to Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22.

All meet dates, times and locations are subject to change.
