PHILADLEPHIA – The Penn women’s cross country team has announced its schedule for the 2009 season as the Red and Blue seek to improve on last year’s sixth-place finish in the league championships.
The Quakers return three key runners from a season ago and will look to their freshman class to give them depth. Senior Anna Aagenes will be counted on to lead the Red and Blue and improve on her performance a year ago, while returning sophomores Laura Steel and Rachel Humphrey look to take hold of the second and third spots after consistently rounding out the top five last year. The Quakers also bring in a class of nine freshmen who are cross country or distance specialists to give depth to the squad.
The Red and Blue open up their season on September 12, when they travel to Princeton to take part in the Old Nassau Run, and then travel to New York City the following weekend for the Iona Meet of Champions, a meet in which they placed sixth out of 21 teams last year.
Following a week off, the Quakers travel to Lehigh on October 2, where they will take part in the Paul Short Invitational, and then venture up to State College for the Penn State Invitational on Friday, October 15.
On October 30, Penn travels back to New York City for the Heptagonal Championships looking to improve on last year’s sixth place.
The Red and Blue conclude their season with the NCAA District Meet at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on November 14; the NCAA Championships take place November 23, at Indiana State University.
