PHILADELPHIA – University of Pennsylvania right-hander Connor Cuff was named co-Big 5 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday after tossing a complete game, five-hit shutout against Cornell, his fourth complete game of the season. Cuff struck out six – three of which came in the first inning – and walked only one over seven innings of a 6-0 Penn win.
The first complete game shutout of the Ivy League season for the Quakers was Cuff’s fourth complete game this season, a number that ties him for ninth in the nation in the category. With the win he improved to 5-3, matching Dan Gautieri for the most wins on the team this season.
Cuff will be back on the mound for his final start of the season on Friday, when the Quakers take on Columbia in the first game of four between the teams. Friday’s twinbill will get going at 1 p.m. in New York City, with the Red and Blue returning home on Saturday to close out the season at Meiklejohn Stadium at 1 p.m.
