PHILADELPHIA - After freshman Dami Omitaomu's heroics in the University of Pennsylvania men's soccer team's 2-1 overtime win over Brown on Saturday, the Knoxville, Tenn. native has been named both the Ivy League and Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week, announced Monday.
This marks Omitaomu's second-straight Rookie of the Week award from the Soccer Six, and first from the Ivy League.
The rookie notched both of Penn's goals against Brown, scoring first in the 49th minute on a long ball sent in from Alec Neumann. After the Bears equalized late, Neumann again found Omitaomu, this time on the outer corner of the penalty box, who struck a ball to the far post past the goalkeeper and in for the golden goal game-winner.
Omitaomu now owns three goals on the season (all scored in the past two Ivy games for the Red and Blue) and paired with his one assist, has seven points this fall, tied for third-most on the squad.
Penn (5-5-5, 3-2 Ivy League) returns to action on Saturday for its final road match of the season, traveling to New Jersey to battle the Princeton Tigers at 4 p.m.
