PHILADELPHIA - A year ago, the University of Pennsylvania women's track and field team claimed victory in the annual Penn-Yale-Princeton meet - its first P-Y-P title since 2006 - and will play host to the meet this Saturday at Franklin Field.
The tri-meet starts at 11 a.m., with the hammer. The first track event between the Ivy rivals, the steeplechase, will take place at noon. Just a short while later, the 4x400-meter relay will conclude the meet at 1:45 p.m.
Penn won the 2010 P-Y-P title with seven victories in the 10 track events at Weaver Stadium in Princeton, N.J. And in the field events, the Red and Blue posted wins in five more events. Both Paige Madison and Kathryn Gevitz won two events apiece as the Quakers tallied 89 points. Princeton was the runner-up with 83.
Last week, at the Penn Invite, sophomore Morgan Wheeler won the javelin, junior Catherine Okoukoni won the long and triple jumps, junior Kristen Judge claimed the high jump, freshman Christine Cohick won the 5,000 meters and all three relays won for the Quakers at Franklin Field.
Saturday's tri-meet marks the third time in as many weeks that the Red and Blue will compete on their home track. Penn has just one home meet remaining after the P-Y-P, the 117th running of the Penn Relays, the world's oldest and largest relay carnival. Some tickets are still available here.
A full recap and complete results of the P-Y-P meet can be found at PennAthletics.com shortly after the conclusion of the day's events.
