Philadelphia Penn freshman midfielder Derek Hobson was named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, while junior Justin Estrada earned a spot on the Honor Roll, as announced by the League office this afternoon.
Hobson recorded his first collegiate goal, and assist, in a 3-0 win over Wisconsin. He assisted on the Quakers’ first goal of the game in the 23rd minute when he fed the ball to sophomore Derrick Jumper for the goal. Then, fifteen minutes later, Hobson got a goal of his own, an eight-yard shot from in front of the net at the 38:31 mark. Hobson is currently second on the team in scoring with three points.
Estrada finished the weekend with four points. He recorded a goal and two assists while being named to the Coca-Cola Panther Invitational All-Tournament team. On Saturday, Estrada notched two assists in the Red and Blue’s 3-0 win over Wisconsin. On Sunday, he tallied the first goal of the game in a 2-1 overtime loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Estrada currently leads the team in scoring with four points. For his efforts he was also named the Penn Athlete of the Week and the Philadelphia Soccer Seven honor roll.
The Quakers (1-2-0) are back in action on Sept. 17 and Sept. 19 as it hosts the 2004 Penn Soccer Classic. On Friday, Princeton will face Fairleigh Dickinson at noon, while Penn kicks off against South Carolina at 2:30 p.m. On Sunday, Princeton will take on South Carolina at noon followed by Fairleigh Dickinson and Penn at 2:30 p.m.
