PHILADELPHIA - Freshman running back Michael DiMaggio of the Penn football team was honored as the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. The announcement was made Monday morning by the conference office.
DiMaggio earned the honor after playing a key role in the first quarter of Saturday's game against Georgetown, when Penn rolled up a 28-0 lead en route to a 42-13 victory. DiMaggio had three rushes for 49 yards in the opening stanza, including a 38-yard run that ended with his first collegiate touchdown. For the day, DiMaggio finished with 11 rushes for 85 yards.
This is the firstIvy weekly honor forDiMaggio, whohas 21 rushes for 108 yards as well as two receptions totaling 17 yards.
It also marks the first Ivy honor for any Penn player so far in 2007. The Quakers are back in action Saturday afternoon at Columbia, taking on the Lions at Wien Stadium in New York City. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
