PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly award winners in men's basketball, and University of Pennsylvania senior forward Fran Dougherty has been named co-Ivy League Player of the Week along with Yale's Justin Sears.
This is Dougherty's second weekly honor from the Ivy League; he was also named Ivy League Player of the Week on January 13.
Dougherty earned the award this week after collecting double-doubles in each of the Quakers' Ivy League winsover theweekend, Friday over Cornell (90-83) and then Saturday over Columbia (68-60). In Friday's win, he scored 17 points (going 7-of-9 from the field) and pulled down 10 rebounds. One night later,Dougherty scored 23 points and snared 12 boards, one shy of a career high. In the first half of Saturday's win over the Lions,hewas a perfect 8-of-8 from the field en route to 19 points.
Dougherty enters this weekend's action leading the Ivy League in rebounds per game in Ivy play (9.0); sixth in scoring in Ivy play(15.6 ppg); and second in field-goal percentage in Ivy play(.615) behind teammate Darien Nelson-Henry.
Penn (6-13, 3-2 Ivy League) returns to action again this weekend, this time on the road. The Quakers are at Yale on Friday night, then play at Brown on Saturday night.
