Philadelphia - Graduating senior Duvol Thompson has just beensignedby the St. Louis Rams football team. The 2004 unanimous first-team All-Ivy League selection will join fellow Ivy Leaguer, Ryan Fitzpatrick from Harvard, who wasdrafted in seventh round by the Rams last weekend.
Thompson, who was one of only two unanimous first-team All-Ivy selections on the defensive side of the ball, concluded his career in the Red and Blue this pastfall. The Calumet City, Ill. native led the Quakers in kick returns with 10 returns for 237 yards. Thompson finished with 29 tackles (23 solo), six pass deflections and one interception. He was a preseason All-American according to the Sports Network.
The Red and Blue concluded their season with an 8-2 record overall and a 6-1 mark in the Ivy League. Penn ended the 2004 campaign ranked No. 21 in both the Sports Network and the ESPN/USA Today polls.
The Quakers will look to replace a senior class of 21 student-athletes that left a major imprint on the football program with the highest winning percentage at Penn in the modern era (.897) and tied the Penn Class of 2004 with the highest Ivy winning percentage (.929) in the history of the League. This spring’s graduating seniors were also victorious in 17 of 19 games played in Franklin Field, a .895 winning percentage.
Thompson will join his new team this weekend at theirminicamp.
