ECAC Names Samson All-Star Kicker

PHILADELPHIA – University of Pennsylvania sophomore Andrew Samson received yet another postseason honor on Thursday as an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star. Samson, who has already accumulated two All-America honors and first team All-Ivy accolades, was the lone kicker named to the 2008 ECAC All-Star team.

Samson’s 16 field goals in 2008 ranked third in the nation and broke the school record of 15, which was first set in 1988. The West Bloomfield, Mich., native was tops in the Ivy League in field goal percentage (84.2%) as he missed just three attempts all season.

Samson also led the Ivy League in PAT percentage as he continued his perfect stretch on point after attempts. With his 20-for-20 effort last season, he has now made 49 straight to start his career. It is the most consecutive makes in Penn history.

In addition to his athletic laurels, Samson also earned a spot on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team.

The ECAC is the nation’s largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conference, with 321 member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging across 16 states from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. Established in 1938 with 58 charter members, the ECAC has since emerged as the nationwide leader in service.
