Ed Macarak returns for his eigth season as a volunteer assistant coach in 2007. Macarak brings with him experience and knowledge of the game to the Penn program.
Macarak served as the head coach for a nine to 12 year-old team in the Lower Merion Baseball League and also a 13 to 15 year-old boys team in the Westgate Hills League in Haverford Township.
For 23 years, Macarak played fastpitch softball in the Suburban Softball and Lynnwood Leagues. During a 10-year period, the Friendly softball team consistently earned berths to compete in the Pennsylvania State ASA Class C Championships.
With the Quakers, Macarak’s responsibilities include working with the outfielders and the infielders as well as directing situational offense.
Macarak is a Professor and Chairman of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology in the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He has worked for the University for more than 30 years.
