PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League office has announced its first weekly honors for the 2007-08 men's basketball season, and Penn freshman Jack Eggleston was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
Eggleston -- out of Noblesville, Ind. -- earned the honor after averaging 7.3 points and 5.3 rebounds through Penn’s first three games this season. In his first collegiate game, against Drexel, Eggleston got the start and contributed seven points and eight rebounds; he also had the game-tying shot at the end of regulation that sent the game into overtime (Penn eventually lost, 67-59). Two days later, he had eight points and three rebounds, hitting every one of his shots in a loss at Loyola. On Saturday, Eggleston had seven points and six boards in 24 minutes off the bench against Howard.
Tuesday night against The Citadel, Eggleston finished with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field, and also grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists in the Quakers' 93-77 win.
For the season, Eggleston is third on the team with 8.8 points per game, and second averaging 4.8 rebounds per contest.
