PHILADELPHIA The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently released its preseason poll with junior Ekaterina Kosminskaya in the top 100, ranking No. 99. Kosminskaya is the only ranked Penn player and the third-highest ranked Ivy League player.
Unanimous Ivy League Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year as a freshman, Kosminskaya recorded a 16-8 record in the number one spot over the 2007-08 season, which included a 4-1 record in Ivy League play. In addition, Kosminskaya was honored with first-team All-Ivy accolades in singles and second-team All-Ivy in doubles.
A native of Moscow, Russia, Kosminskaya was ranked as high as 24th in singles and 10th in doubles in the ITF Junior Ranking.
“I believe this is a great start to the year for [Kosminskaya],” said head coach Michael Dowd. “My hope is that her ranking will keep going up throughout the season.”
Kosminskaya and the Quakers will be back on the court to begin their fall season this weekend, when the team heads to the Princeton Invitational.
