PHILADELPHIA - On Saturday, Emily Leitner made nine saves in goal as No. 8 Penn downed No. 3 North Carolina, 10-7. Monday morning, she was named Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
She was her busiest in the first half with six stops, but three point-blank saves in the final 12 minutes of the second half protected Penn’s lead as the Quakers pulled off the upset. Not content simply manning the cage, Leitner came out and forced a turnover while adding a ground ball.
This is Leitner's first Ivy League weekly honor. She and the Quakers are back in action Wednesday afternoon at Hofstra with a 3 p.m. start.
