NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Women's tennis went a perfect 3-0 in main draw singles Saturday at the Northeast ITA/USTA Regional championship. Stephanie Do came from the opening Round of 128 and picked up a pair of wins to move into the Round of 32. After a Round of 128 bye for Sol Eskenazi, the 10th-seeded Quaker won her first match in straight sets. Alex Ion received a bye in her Round of 128 match, but could not complete her Round of 64 match against Harvard's Sam Gridley and will finish that match Sunday. In doubles, Do and Ion feel in the Round of 16.

After coming up just short in some of the tight singles matches on Friday, the wins started to come for Penn on Saturday afternoon. The biggest winner of the day was Do, who came into the tournament unseeded and had to take two matches to move into Sunday's Round of 32. In the opening round, Do won a tiebreak in her first set, 7-6 (3), and took the second set by a 6-2 score over her opponent from Princeton.

Her opening round win set up a rematch with Christine Ordway after the two had met earlier in the fall at the Cissie Leary Invitational. In the first match of the fall, Ordway won 6-0, 6-3 over Do. Ordway, seeded 17th in the draw, opened the match with another 6-0 win in the first set, but Do would fight back with a 6-2 win in the second set. In the decisive set, Do came away with the 6-4 win, advancing to the Round of 32. She will now face (13) Nina Lagvilava (Stony Brook) Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

Eskenazi won her Round of 64 match with a 6-2 win in the first set and followed that up with a hard-fought 7-5 second set victory to move onto the Round of 32. In the Round of 32, Eskenazi will face her first seeded opponent of the weekend, (17) Camille Jania (Harvard) Sunday at 11 a.m.

Ion was unable to complete her singles match Saturday and will finish that match up early Sunday morning. Ion and Do did get to finish their Round of 16 doubles match, but the Quakers last duo standing could not keep their regional run alive. After taking two straight matches yesterday, including a win over a seeded pairing, Do and Ion feel to the seventh seeds, 8-5.

Action picks up with Sunday with the matches that went unfinished in the singles Round of 64. The Quarterfinal doubles will also take place along with the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals in the main draw singles.
