PHILADELPHIA - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its 2014-15 Academic Awards for NCAA Division I women's tennis, and the University of Pennsylvania was honored with a team award as well as two individual recipients.
Recent graduates Sol Eskenazi and Alexandra Ion were named ITA Scholar Athletes. In order to qualify for ITA Scholar Athlete recognition, a player must have been a varsity letterwinner; carried a grade-point average of at least 3.50 (out of 4.00) for the 2014-15 academic year; and been enrolled at their current institution for at least two semesters.
Penn -- under head coach Sanela Kunovac -- also received an ITA All-Academic Team award. In order to merit such an honor, the members of a varsity program must carry a combined grade-point average of at least 3.20 (out of 4.00) for the academic year. Penn was one of just four Ivy League schools to receive ITA All-Academic team recognition along with Brown, Harvard and Princeton.
