State College, Pa. - Several members of the Penn wrestling team competed at the Nittany Lion Open on Sunday at Penn State. The Quakers picked up to placewinners at the tournament in junior Matt Eveleth and freshman Matthew Dragon were second and third in their respective weight classes.
Eveleth took second at the 133 lbs. He recorded a pin and major decision on his way to the championship bout against Joe Baker, who was wrestling unattached. Eveleth fell 7-4 in that match.
Matt Dragon was third at 149 lbs. Dragon went 5-1 on the day and had four major decision. His only loss was to the Brent Metcalf, the eventual winner, a 7-5 defeat. Dragon beat Patrick Simpson of Army in the third-place match, 8-6.
The Red and Blue open their dual meet portion of the season on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 6:30 p.m. with No. 10 Penn State followed by Drexel at 8 p.m. The University of Pennsylvania will honor Roger Reina, the winningest coach in program history, who retired in July.
