Feast Earns 100th Win, Advances to Semifinals of Midlands Championships

Evanston, Ill. – Senior Matt Feast earned his 100th career victory and advanced to the semifinals during the first day of competition at the 42nd Midlands Championship. The Quakers remain in the top-15 out of 60 schools from across the nation.

Feast notched his historic win during the first round of competition by defeating Chad Barkalow of Iowa, 3-1, to become one of just five grapplers to notch 100 decisions in their Penn careers. The Cressona, Pa. native took Barkalow down in the first 50 seconds of the first period and recorded an escape in the third to secure the historic win.

Junior Dustin Wiles advanced to the quarterfinals of 174 with a decisive 9-3 victory over Iowa’s Luke Lofthouse. However, in the quarterfinals Wiles was edged by sixth-seeded Nick Passolano of Iowa State, 3-2. In the first round, Wiles recorded his team-high fourth fall of the season pinning Chicago’s Phil Kruzel in 1:08 in the first round.

Senior Jeff Eveleth, the eleventh seed, pinned Adams States’ Raymond Dunning in 3:08 in the first round before falling in the second round to fifth-seeded Scott Jorgenson, 5-1. Eveleth then wrestled with back-to-back wins to advance to the fifth round of consolations.

Freshman Zach Shanaman earned his first Midlands decision with a 6-0 win over Iowa’s Oleg Polyatskiy in the first round. Sophomore Dan Gallagher also picked up a first-round win defeating Dan Dunning of Northern Iowa, 6-1.

Feast, Wiles and Eveleth will continue competition at Midlands tomorrow, Dec. 30 at noon.
