PHILADELPHIA - The Ivy League has announced its weekly award winners for men's lacrosse, and Penn freshman goalie Brian Feeney was the choice as the first Ivy League Rookie of the Week for 2011.
Feeney's honor was well-deserved -- in his collegiate debut, he made nine saves and allowed just three goals as Pennknocked offdefending NCAA champion Duke, 7-3, Saturday afternoon at Franklin Field. Feeney had four saves in the first half, when the Quakers shut out the Blue Devils, and added four in the final quarter to preserve the win. Duke's three-goal output was its lowest in a game since 1986.
Penn's win propelled them to No. 14 in this week's USILA national coaches poll. The Quakers are in action twice this week, hosting Bucknell Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. and Lafayette Friday night at 7 p.m.
