Fencing Competes at Penn State Open

STATE COLLEGE - Penn sent 32 fencers to State College, Pa. this weekend to compete in the Penn State Open. This early season tournament featured some of the best fencers in the country and provided a good opportunity for the Red and Blue to test themselves as they head into the multi-meet that Penn will host on December 1.

Samuel Monk was high finisher for the Quakers, taking home fourth place in men's epee. Other Quakers who brought home strong finishes were Alex Salsman (seventh) and Ron Berkowsky (ninth) in men's foil, Andrew Bielen (eight) in men's sabre, Ilana Sinkin (fifth) in women's foil and Alexis Baran (seventh) and Danielle Kamis (ninth) in women's sabre.

Both the men's and women's teams will finish the 2007 portion of their schedule when they compete at the Penn Multi-Meet on December 1. Other teams competeing that day include Drew, Johns Hopkins, Sacred Heart and Stevens Tech on the men's side, while Drew and Sacred Heart will also compete in women's action.
