Fencing Opens Season with OSU Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania men’s and women’s fencing teams will open the 2014-15 season on Sunday at the OSU Invitational held in the French Field House. The Quakers will compete against host Ohio State as well as Notre Dame, Penn State, North Carolina, and Princeton. Bouting will begin for the Red and Blue at 8 a.m.

Against these opponents last year, the men were 5-4 while the women were 4-4.

The men opened their season with a 15-12 win over the Buckeyes at home in The Coach Dave Micahnik Fencing Center, while the women fell to OSU, 16-11, and Princeton, 9-8. However, the women turned things around at the PSU Invitational, going 5-0 including a 14-13 win over PSU and a 20-7 win over UNC.

Throughout the season, the women claimed a second 20-7 win over the Tarheels during the Philadelphia Invitational and added a 16-11 win over the Fighting Irish at the NU Duals. The men captured a pair of wins against Princeton, including a 14-13 win at the Ivy League Fencing Round-Robins, in addition to taking a 20-77 win over UNC and a 19-8 win over Notre Dame.
