Fencing Sits in 10th at NCAA Championships

HOUSTON, TEXAS – At the completion of the first day of competition at the NCAA Championships, the University of Pennsylvania fencing team is in 10th place with 24 total victories. Thursday was just women’s competition and the Quakers were led by their foil team – which tallied 15 victories.

Abby Emerson and Ilana Sinkin combined for Penn’s 15 victories in the foil. Emerson tied for ninth, while Sinkin took 15th.

The Red and Blue’s other two competitors were Holly Buechel and Cassandra Partyka. Buechel placed 14th in the epee with six victories. Partyka’s three victories in the saber were good enough for 22nd place.

The women’s competition concludes Friday with the final round in each weapon. The men’s competition runs Saturday and Sunday. The team standings are based on total victories in men’s and women’s events.
