Fencing's Vaiani Tabbed as ECAC Rookie of the Week

PHILADELPHIA – As announced by the Eastern College Athletic Conference late afternoon on Wednesday, University of Pennsylvania freshman foilist John Vaiani earned his first Corvias ECAC Male Rookie of the Week. The fencer earns the accolade for finishing the 2015 Ivy League Fencing Round Robins with the best foil record for a male fencer, 14-1, thus receiving the title of Men’s Foil Champ. Vaiani was also awarded first-team All-Ivy.

So far this season, Vaiani has accumulated a 39-8 overall record and a 20-7 record against ranked opponents – according to CollegeFencing360. In addition, Vaiani traveled to Aix-en-Provence, France the week before the Ivy Round Robins to compete in his last Junior World Cup. There, Vaiani represented Team USA and finished third out of 100 foilists from around the world.
