PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania field hockey program has announced its 2010 schedule. The Quakers will play a 17-game slate that features five home contests.

"We will be tested early in our 2010 schedule, opening with a strong Rider program that lost just two games in 2009," said head coach Colleen Quinn Fink, who begins her first season at the helm when the team begins preseason camp in August. "We are determined to improve on our home winning percentage with our five home contests, and are looking forward to playing local rivals such as Villanova, Temple, Drexel, and Saint Joseph's. The coaching staff and athletes are eager to work hard and have our efforts pay off in every match."

Penn opens the 2010 campaign -- and Fink's Penn coaching era -- by hosting Rider over Labor Day Weekend, then the Quakers travel to Williamsburg, Va., for a pair of games. The first comes on Saturday, Sept. 11 against William & Mary, and then on Sunday Penn plays Davidson on the W&M campus.

Penn begins Ivy League play at Cornell on Sept. 18, and then after a midweek, non-conference matchup with Villanova (Sept. 22) the Quakers host Harvard (Sept. 25). Another midweek trip sends the Penn women to Lafayette (Sept. 29), before they hit the road for Dartmouth (Oct. 2).

Penn goes out of conference for four straight games in early October, all of them on the road. The streak begins at West Chester (Oct. 6), continues with city foes Temple (Oct. 10) and Drexel (Oct. 13), and finishes with Delaware (Oct. 15). At that point the Quakers are home for three of their next four, starting with Ivy League opponent Columbia (Oct. 17) and continuing with another city rival in Saint Joseph's (Oct. 20). After a trip to Yale (Oct. 23), Penn is back home to face Brown (Oct. 31) in its final home game. The regular season concludes with a Friday night trip to Princeton (Nov. 5).

Penn went 5-12 last year, including a 2-5 mark in Ivy League play.
