Field Hockey Announces 2014 Schedule

PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s head coach for field hockey, Colleen Fink, has announced the program’s 2014 schedule. The Quakers are slated to play 17 games this fall, nine of them at home on Ellen Vagelos C’90 Field.

“A program's improvement is typically multi-tiered and takes time,” said Fink, who enters her fifth season as the program’s head coach. “One area that we continue to examine is our schedule. With the addition of several strong programs, and the continued and steady strengthening of the Ivy League overall, I feel this schedule is a step in the right direction for our program.”

Penn opens the season with four games at Ellen Vagelos Field, starting Friday, Sept. 5 against Lehigh and continuing against Bucknell (Sept. 7), Fairfield (Sept. 12) and Liberty (Sept. 14).

The Quakers’ first road game will also be their Ivy League opener, as they travel to Cornell to face the Big Red on Saturday, Sept. 20. The women then travel to Lafayette (Sept. 24) for a non-conference game before playing their first Ivy League home game of the season against Harvard (Sept. 27).

Penn opens October play with an Ivy match at Dartmouth (Saturday, Oct. 4), followed by non-conference games at home against Monmouth (Oct. 9) and on the road against one of the sport’s traditional power programs, Maryland (Oct. 12). The Red and Blue return to Ivy League play by hosting Columbia on Ellen Vagelos Field (Oct. 18), then host another non-conference opponent in Longwood a day later (Oct. 19).

Penn is on the road for four of its last five games, starting with Yale (Oct. 25) and Villanova (Oct. 28) before hosting Brown in its final home game (Nov. 1). The Quakers will wrap up the season with games at Rutgers (Nov. 2) and Princeton (Nov. 8).

Penn is coming off a 13-4 season last year, and finished second in the Ivy League with a 5-2 mark.
