VILLANOVA, Pa. - Against the Villanova Wednesday night, the Penn field hockey team could not get into an offensive flow as the Wildcats topped the Quakers, 4-0, in a non-conference contest. Penn fell to 1-4 on the season, while Villanova improved to 2-4.
Villanova's keeper, Megan Goelz, earned her second consecutive shutout against the Red and Blue, making one save in all 70:00 minutes of play. The Quakers managed just seven shots off the Wildcats, while the hosting team had 21 chances at the goal. Penn keeper Kieran Sweeney allowed four goals and finished with eight saves in 61:14 minutes, with sophomore Danielle Rothman playing the other 8:46.
The Wildcats used an even scoring attack, having four different players finding the back of the cage. Dana Ramsden gave Villanova a 1-0 halftime lead with her goal at the 10:08 mark, helped by Lauren Wuzzardo.
Rapid fire in the second half from Meredith Sabatini at 44:24 and Wuzzardo just a minute later gave 'Nova a commanding 3-0 lead. Sam Haas capped the win with a goal at 59:15, assisted by Sabatini.
The Quakers head back into Ivy play Saturday, hosting Harvard at noon on Franklin Field.
