Williamsburg, Va, - The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team opened the season with a 2-0 loss to William & Mary on Friday night at Busch Field.
The Tribe (3-0) got on the board midway through the first half with a tally from Sue Taylor. William & Mary added a Kelly Giles goal with five minutes remaining in the first stanza to take a 2-0 lead. Senior Liz Lorelli led the Quakers (0-1) with four shots, while the trio of senior Bernice Ravache, senior Kate Murphy and junior Lea Salese controlled the defense.
In the cage, sophomore Elizabeth Schlossberg made five saves and shut out the Tribe in the second half. Heather Kibbee made five stops for William & Mary.
Penn returns to action against Virginia Commonwealth on Sept. 5 at 1 p.m before returning home to face Saint Joseph's in the home opener on Sept. 8 at Franklin Field.
