Field Hockey Falls to Cornell, 2-1

PHILADELPHIA - The Penn field hockey team lost a close match-up to Ivy rival Cornell today, 2-1, in Ithaca, N.Y.

The Big Red scored first, 15 minutes into the first half, when Abbi Horn got one by Penn goalie Elizabeth Schlossberg withthe assistgoing toSarah Miller. Fifteen minutes later, Helena Haas made it 2-0 for the Big Red, with Miller earning the assist again.

The lone Penn goal came just one minute before halftime, when Melissa Black scored on a penalty corner, with Jamie Calahan and Meghan Rose both getting anassist. It was notthe only shot they would get --Margaretha Ehret had three shots on goal, as did Melissa Black. Calahan had two of her own, along with Nicole Black. Nyssa Liebermann added a shot on goal as well.

Goalie Schlossberg had two saves in her 70 minutes of play. With the win, Cornell improved to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the Ivy League, while the Quakers fell to 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the Ivy League.

Up next, the Quakers will travel to Penn State Wednesday, September 20.
