PHILADELPHIA-- The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team lost a tough Ivy League battle to Cornell, 3-1, Saturday morning at Franklin Field.
Cornell (4-1, 2-0 Ivy) got on the board early in first half when Brenna Gulotta scored the first of her two goals in the game on a nice individual effort from the left side. Blair Corcoran assisted on the goal.
Penn (3-3, 0-2 Ivy) answered less than four minutes later, however, when senior Cara Calahan put one in the back of the cage. However, at the 29:35 mark Gulotta scored her second tally on a feed from Alyssa DePaola whichgave the Big Red a leaditwould not relinquish. The Big Red added one more goal in the second half, an unassisted tally by Katlyn Donoghue.
Penn outshot Cornell, 14-6, and held an 11-8 advantage in corners. Junior Elizabeth Schlossberg made two saves for the Red and Blue, while Lizzie Goldblatt made five for the Big Red.
Penn hits the road for a non-league game against No. 2 Maryland Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in College Park, Md.
