ITHACA, N.Y. - The Penn field hockeywas unable to contain Cornell's offense Saturday, falling to the Big Red, 3-1. Freshmen Abigail Egan scored the lone Penn goal - her first as a collegian.
Cornell put itself on the board at the start of the game, when Kate Thompson tipped the ball to the back of the net off a penalty corner.
The Big Red notched another goal at the end of the first half. Belen Martinez broke through the Quaker defense to take the game into the half with Cornell leading 2-0
Neither team could control play in the beginning of the second half.The Quakers finally found the back of the net in the 57th minute. Egan scored on a Penn penalty corner - she drove the ball straight on goal, but Cornell goalie Melanie Jue deflected it. Egan followed her shot and was able to capitalize on the rebound.
Ten minutes later, the Big Red added an insurance goal on Penn, when Abbi Horn fedCatie De Stio the ball on a breakaway.
Goalie Alanna Butera record 10 saves on the day.
Penn is back in Philadelphia Wednesday night to play at Villanova - game is set for 7 p.m
