PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team got second-half goals from Alexa Hoover and Elizabeth Hitti on Sunday, overcoming a Temple goal and propelling the Quakers to a 2-1 victory at the Owls' Geasey Field.

It was the second-straight intracity victory for the Quakers (3-1), who had defeated Saint Joseph’s on Friday. Temple fell to 2-4 with the loss.

After a scoreless first half, Temple opened the scoring just four minutes into the second half as Alyssa Delp scored off a Paige Gross feed.

Penn needed just 1:30 to equalize, however, as Hoover notched her 11th goal of the season off a Hitti feed. Through four games this season Hoover, who was co-Ivy League Player of the Week on Monday, is just three goals shy of her total for all of last season -- when she led the Ivies in goals.

The game stayed tied for nearly 18 minutes after that, but with just under 12 minutes left in regulation Hitti broke the deadlock with an unassisted goal. It was the senior co-captain’s third tally this season.

Temple outshot Penn, 17-6, but Liz Mata came up with six saves in the Quakers goal to gain the important win. At the other end, Haley Mitchell had one stop for the Owls.

Penn will be home for its next three games, starting Wednesday when the Quakers host Villanova at 4 p.m. That game will be televised live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
