PHILADELPHIA The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team is back on Franklin Field tomorrow evening when it takes on cross-town rival Saint Joseph’s.
The Quakers head into this game with a 1-1 record after the opening weekend.
Penn shutout St. Francis (Pa.) 2-0 on Friday night, but was unable to continue its winning weekend slugging through Hurricane Hanna and a 4-2 loss to Rutgers.
Senior Christina Ferrier leads the Quaker offense with two goals and an assist for a combined five points. Classmate Margaretha Ehret follows Ferrier with four points, including the game-winning goal against St. Francis and assists in both games.
Juniors Kathryn Rose and Sarah Warner have also posted points for the Quakers. Rose scored against Rutgers while Warner assisted on Ferrier’s goal in the St. Francis game.
Goalie Alanna Butera recorded 12 saves on the weekend and marked her first shutout of the season and fourth all-time.
Tomorrow’s game will be the 15th all-time meeting against the Hawks. Penn currently leads the series 9-5, but lost last year’s match, 2-1.
Saint Joseph’s hold a 2-1 record with wins against Bryant and Fairfield.
The Quaker defense will look to shutdown the Hawks’ leading scorer Kellie Walter who leads the team with three goals.
