PHILADELPHIA Penn field hockey is set to host cross-town rival Temple Wednesday evening on Franklin Field. This is the final non-conference game of the season for the Quakers. The two teams have met 33 times over the years and the Owls currently lead the all-time series, 24-9.
In last year’s matchup the Red and Blue fell, 4-2, to the Owls in its season opener. In that game, Temple pulled away with a 4-0 lead before Rachel Eng and Margaretha Ehret each provided a goal to prevent the shutout.
Most recently, the Quakers beat Columbia, 3-1, in a crucial Ivy League match. Eng notched an early goal in the first half and then added the eventual game-winner 10 minutes later. With less then five minutes left in the game, when it was 2-1, Kathryn Rose added an insurance goal to seal the win for Penn. Kelsey Tahan recorded assists on Eng’s second goal and Rose’s goal.
Ehret leads Penn with six goals and four assists, while Eng has recorded five goals and one assist. Christina Ferrier and Rose have each added two goals thus far; Ferrier has also accumulated four assists and Rose has one.
Kathryn Burke leads the team with three defensive saves; she also has one assist. Tahan and Stephanie Ragg have two apiece. Goalie Alanna Butera has recorded 93 saves thus far the highest in the Ivies.
Temple is headed to Franklin Field with a 7-9 record. The Owls recently fell to Richmond, 3-2. Temple is lead by Charise Young who has eight goals and seven assists. Dannah Brehm has five goals all but one game-winners.
