Field Hockey Nets Fourth-Straight Shutout; Blanks Georgetown, 3-0

Washington, D.C. – Three different Quakers scored to lead the University of Pennsylvania field hockey team to a 3-0 victory over Georgetown on Wednesday afternoon at Kehoe Field.

Penn (10-4) started the scoring early, with senior Liz Lorelli notching a goal at the 5:34 mark of the first half. The Quakers held on to the early lead and dominated much of the first half on offense, but the Hoyas (3-13) defense held their ground and prevented another Quakers tally. The Red and Blue came out of the halftime eager to score. Junior Lea Salese did just that 12 minutes into the second stanza. Penn added to their lead at the 54:31 mark to seal the victory when Tracy Statter scored her second goal of the season on a feed from Lorelli.

Penn out shot the Hoyas, 17-3, and held a 7-1 advantage in penalty corners. Sophomore Liz Schlossberg and junior Amanda Jacobs combined for the shutout with Schlossberg making two saves. Senior Kate Murphy made a defensive save for the Quakers to help Penn record its sixth shutout of the season and fourth in-a-row.

The Red and Blue recorded at least 10 wins in a season for a second-straight year, something the Quakers haven’t done since 1992 -1993. Penn travels to New Haven, Conn. on Oct. 23 for the first of three Ivy League games to close out the regular season. Game time is slated for noon.
