PHILADELPHIA - Penn field hockey has been hard at work this August preparing for the upcoming 2011 season. Wednesday afternoon at Franklin Field, the Quakers took on Lehigh in a preseason scrimmage. Penn closed out regulation strong with a goal in the final minutes of the second half and after 70 minutes of regulation play, the teams agreed to play an overtime period to get some additional playing time. During the added time, the two squads drew to a 1-1 tie in that 10 minute session. The Quakers capped off the day with a very strong showing in the stroke-off.
With a young squad that features eight freshman and six sophomores, Wednesday was a great day for Penn to gain some more collegiate experience heading into the season. The Quakers' season officially gets underway next Friday, September 2 when the team travels to our nation's capital to take on 10th-ranked American University at 5 p.m.
