Field Hockey Returns to the Win Column; Shuts Out Lafayette, 1-0

Easton, Pa. - The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team returned to the win column with a 1-0 shutout over Lafayette on Tuesday night at Rappolt Field. It was the first win for the Quakers against the Leopards since Penn’s 3-0 victory in 2000.

The Quakers (2-3) scored their lone goal off one of eight corners in the first half after just a few minutes of action. Junior Kristen Gray scored her second goal of the season on assists from senior Sara Shelley and junior Cara Calahan. Penn had several other opportunities to score including a point-blank shot from junior Lea Salese which was stopped by Kasey Gallagher’s defensive save with six minutes left in the second stanza. The Red and Blue outplayed the Leopards (2-3) with clean sharp passes and solid defense.

Sophomore Elizabeth Schlossberg made three saves in her second career shutout. Jill Lambert made five stops for the Leopards.

Tonight's Lafayette-Penn match-up will air to a national audience on College Sports Television (CSTV)on Friday, Sept.17 at 8 p.m. The Red and Blue will next travel to Ithaca, N.Y. for an Ivy League match-up with Cornell on Sat., Sept. 18. The Quakers and Big Red face off at noon.
