Field Hockey Team Awards Presented at Banquet

PHILADELPHIA - Field Hockey recently presented its end of the year team awards at the annual banquet. First-year head coach Colleen Fink handed out three awards given annually to recognize individual achievement on the team.

Senior Laurel McGarvie was presented with the Anne Towsend Award (Team MVP). McGarvie, a team captain, was one of four Quakers to start in all 17 games this season and was honored as a second-team All-Ivy. McGarvie tied for the team lead with three goals and eight assists on the year. No goal was more significant than her overtime game-winning goal against Columbia in Ivy League play. During her playing career at Penn, McGarvie played in 51 games, starting 25. She totaled 12 goals and four assists for a career total of 28 points.

The Diane Angstadt Award (Most Inspirational) was awarded to Kyle deSandes-Moyer. deSandes-Moyer played in 10 contests during her injury shortened season. She finished her sophomore season with two goals on the year.

The final award presented, The Gail Lipstein Award (Outstanding Freshman), was given to Julie Tahan. Tahan played in 17 games, starting 15, in her rookie season. She tied for the team lead with three goals on the season. Two of her goals came in Quaker victories against Columbia and St. Joseph's.
