Ithaca, N.Y. - Senior co-captain Sara Shelley scored her first collegiate goal in overtime to lift the Penn field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Cornell University on Schoellfopf Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Big Red (0-2, 1-4) scored the first goal of the game with14 minutes remaining in the first half to give Cornell the lead. Junior Kristen Grays scored the equalizer for the Quakers (1-1, 3-3) on a corner with 18:37 left in the second stanza. Gray scored for the third-consecutive game while Shelley and junior Cara Calahan provided the assist. Shelley's goal came 2:15 into overtime after the Quakers were awarded one of their 15 corners in the game.
Sophomore netminder Elizabeth Schlossberg made five stops in the cage, while Lori Blutinger made five saves for the Big Red. The Quakers are 2-0 in overtime games this season.
The Red and Blue return to Franklin Field for a non-league contest against Rutgers. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
