NEW HAVEN, Conn. - University of Pennsylvania freshman Alexa Hoover and senior Emily Corcoran scored second half goals pushing the Quakers field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Yale on Saturday at Johnson Field.
After a scoreless first half between the two teams Yale (2-12, 0-5 Ivy) struck first in the second half, taking a 1-0 lead after a Kiwi Comizio goal six minutes into the second period.
Penn (6-7, 2-3 Ivy) would bounce back after the goal, getting its freshman Hoover alone with the ball in front of the Bulldogs goal, where she was able to capitalize for her 12th goal of the season.
With a little under 16 minutes remaining, Quakersenior Alex Iqbalfound Corcoran on a run getting her the ball for a wide open goal and giving Penn a 2-1 lead.The Red and Blue's defense would take over from there keeping Yale at bay and securing the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Allison Weisenfels finished the day with four saves.
Penn will return to action remaining on the road, as the Quakers travel to Villanova for a 6 p.m. start on Tuesday. Next Saturday, Penn returns home for Senior Day, taking on Brown at Ellen Vagelos Field at 12 p.m., with senior ceremonies beginning prior to the game's start.
