PHILADELPHIA The Penn field hockey team extendedits winning streak to three games and improved to 6-7 overall with a 3-0 win over Drexel Sunday afternoon.
The Quakers had only one day of rest between games after Friday night's3-2 win over Ivy rival Columbia. But rest did notseem to be an issue, as the Quakers came out dominating the Dragons. Penn’s first goal came just10 minutes into the match, as junior Meghan Rose connected with senior Tracy Statter in front of the net. Statter slipped it by Drexel goalie Colleen McAndrews to give Penn the 1-0 lead.
With four minutes left in the half, the Quakers scored again to go into the break with a 2-0 lead. This time it was junior Nicole Black who put it home, with junior forward Jamie Calahan getting the assist.
Statter would score once more to assure the 3-0 win, just 15 seconds before the end of the game. Her second goal came on a deflection of sophomore Margaretha Ehret’s shot.
Goalie action kept Penn in the game, as senior Elizabeth Schlossberg had seven saves in the win forher second shutout of the season. Penn outshot Drexel, 12-11.
Six Quakers recorded shots on goal. Ehret, Calahan, Rose, and Nina Ferrier all had one each, while Statter and Black had four apiece.
