PHILADELPHIA
– After competing at the Villanova Outdoor Duals, the University of Pennsylvania men’s track and field team will host its first home meet of the year with the Penn Invite at Franklin Field on Saturday.

The meet gets an early start at South Field with the hammer at 9 a.m., followed by the discus at 11 a.m. The first men’s track event is the steeplechase at 11:45 a.m. The Penn Invite is scheduled to conclude after the 4x400 relay at 5:20 p.m. There are 21 schools making up a total of 40 teams attending the meet, which inlcudes all of the Big 5 teams as well as Ivy League counterpart Columbia.

Last weekend the Quakers had a strong showing against Big 5 opponents Villanova, Temple and La Salle at Villanova Stadium. Four Quakers won individual titles and the 4x400 meter-relay team placed first in chilly conditions. Efayomi Carr won the long jump with a season-best mark of 6.50 meters (21 feet, 4 inches), while Tim Carey, in his first time running the event, won the 800 meters in a time of 1:55.67, edging out teammate Ben McKean by one second. Additionally, Darryll Oliver won his second event of the season, placing first in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:53.92, and Jeremy Sinclair won the 110-meter hurdles, putting up a time of 15.15.

Last year at the Penn Invite, the host Quakers won three events, including the 4x100 relay and 4x800 relay titles, in times of 42.17 and 7:44.29, respectively. Darryll Oliver opened his outdoor season at the meet by winning the 800 meters in a time of 1:51.76, with teammate Bryan Scotland finishing second in 1:53.72.
