PHILADELPHIA - The University of Pennsylvania women's rowing team earned championships across five separate divisions Saturday at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta.
The Quakers took top honors in the Women's Championship 8+; the Women's Club Championship 8+; the Women's Championship 4+; the Women's college Frosh/Novice 4+; and the Championship Women's Pair.
Penn started the day with a 1-2 finish among 11 boats in the Championship Women's Pair. The duo of Lexi Slotkoff and Natalie Reynolds clocked in at 16:31.891 which was about 18 seconds ahead of their teammates, Romy Simpson and Regina Salmons (16:49.952). Both boats easily outdistanced the field, as the third-place boat was timed in 17:16.847.
Penn also earned a 1-2 double in the Women's Championship 4+, as the Quakers' A boat won in 16:36.122 and the B boat was second in 16:59.237. Penn's C boat was ninth in the field of 58 boats, clocking in at 17:29.526.
Penn's win the Women's Championship 8+ came in a time of 14:46.141, which was nearly 50 seconds ahead of second-place Drexel (15:32.570). Penn's B boat was sixth in the 15-boat field, clocking a time of 15:45.204.
In the Women's Club Championship 8+, Penn's A boat was first in 15:18.750 -- more than 10 seconds clear of the field -- while the Quakers' B boat was seventh in 16:13.749. Overall, 56 boats competed in that division.
Penn's win in the 25-boat Women's College Frosh/Novice 4+ was by nearly 40 seconds, as the Quakers clocked 17:30.150 and Holy Cross was second in 18:10.125.
The only event Penn entered and didn't win on Saturday was the Women's College Frosh/Novice 8+, as the Quakers were eighth in a 41-boat field with a time of 17:50.785.
Penn will conclude the fall portion of its season on Sunday, Nov. 13 at the University of Virginia's Rivanna Romp.
