Five Academic Honors for Women's Track & Field

PHILADELPHIA - Five members of the University of Pennsylvania women's track & field team werenamed to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic team on Friday.

Carey Celata, Kelsey Hay, Ashley Montgomery, Lisa Sesink-Clee and Cleo Whiting all earned the honor for the Quakers.

On the men's side,Sam Mattisbecame the first Ivy Leaguer to earn male Outdoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year honors.

Hay earned second-team All-America honors in the javelin, and won her second straight Heps championship in the event. Celata (800 meters), Montgomery (1,500 meters), Sesink-Clee (javelin) and Whiting (5,000 meters) were also among Penn's record-setting seven women's NCAA qualifiers.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and competed in the NCAA Championships.
