Madison, N.J. - The Quakers had five of a possible six fencers unofficially qualify for the 2011 NCAA Championships with their performances at the Mid-Atlantic Regional held Saturday at Drew University.

Senior Jacob Wischnia, junior Vidur Kapur, sophomore Evan Prochniak and freshmen Michael Mills and Clifford Fishler all qualified for the NCAA Championships by finishing in the top six or seven of their respective weapon.

Wischnia and Fishler finished sixth and seventh overall in epee and Wischnia, the team's captain was quick to credit his training during the year. "It was a grueling final round and I owe a lot of my success to all the coaches in the weight room," said Wischnia. "We, as a team, definitely had more stamina left in the final round than everyone else."

He also was pleased on a personal level "Everyone did a great job and I'm excited that I get to end my Penn fencing career at the national championships."

Prochniak finished second in sabre and Michael Mills wasn't far behind him in seventh. Prochniak will be making his second straight trip, after being an honorable mention All-America selection last year.

In foil, junior Vidur Kapur finished just high enough to qualify for the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year.

National qualifiers will be officially announced on Tuesday and there is an outside chance that one or two Penn fencers have a chance at an at-large selection.
